Shoboji Temple is one of the three head temples of the Soto sect of Zen Buddhism. Its main hall, main gate and quarters of the head priest have been designated as Important Cultural Property of Japan. The thatched roof of the main hall is also said to be the grandest in Japan. Over 120 buildings were reproduced on the vast 20-hectare grounds and it used to be a popular filming location for many TV dramas and movies. The theme park also offers a Kimono dressing experience and Japanese archery to visitors.
