< Namahage>
The Namahage is the local mountain gods in traditional Japanese folklore, who visit door to door on New Year’s Eve to ensure happiness and bring plenty of food from mountains and sea to the people in the Oga city, Akita Prefecture. When the Namahage arrive at a house, they usually stomp in, roaring, and frightening the inhabitants. The head of the household welcomes the Namahage with sake and traditional food, promising to keep the family healthy, and sends them to the next household. Its costumes and masks varies depending on the region.
Kodama Brewery
Kodama Brewery was originally founded in 1879 in northern Akita prefecture, and start brewing sake in 1913.  This region is blessed with high quality rice and water from a beautiful Mount Taihei, the highest and symbolic mountain of Akita City.
< Cape Nyudozaki >
On the west side of Akita prefecture, there is a peninsula called Oga Hanto located right on the 40° Latitude line. On the north of the Oga Peninsula, there is a cape called Nyudozaki which offers a marvelous view of the sea and other islands in the sea. You can climb up the lighthouse with black and white stripes, which is a landmark of the cape to overlook the landscape. The view at sunset is especially beautiful and is selected as one of the “100  best sunsets in Japan”. In addition , there are restaurants where you can enjoy fresh seafood caught in this area.
Namahage Museum >
In the museum, there are a lot of informative exhibits, including 150 Namahage masks and costumes, and the short documentary film about the Namahage events, as well as demonstrations of how its masks are carved. Also, there is a costume booth where you can dress up as a Namahage and take photos. The museum is located right next to the Oga Shinzan Folklore museum.
< Oga Shinzan Folklore Museum >
You can experience the Namahage ritual like on New year's eve at the Oga Shinzan Folklore Museum. The show between the Namahage and the head of the household is interesting, and this is the one of the few places where you can enjoy the traditional events of Namahage.
