Tsuruga Castle
Trusuga castle survived over one-month battle during the Boshin War of 1868, and it gained a reputation of being an unassailable fortress.
The castle was rebuilt in 1965, and had its original red roof tiles restored in 2011. That being said that Tsuruga castle is the only castle in Japan today which features red roof tiles from the end of the Edo period.

Wappameshi
Wappameshi
Wappameshi is a local dish with steamed rice and various toppings grown in the Aizu region, prepared in a circular container called mage-wappa, which is made of thin sheets of curved wood. Mage-wappa is a Japanese traditional craftwork practiced over 500 years.

To-no-Hetsuri
To-no-Hetsuri, literally means the row of cliffs, is a scenic valley along the Okawa River, designated as an Important Natural Monument in 1943. The valley has been eroded for a million years by wind and rain, creating a beautiful landscape. A bridge is built across the river and enables visitors to have a closer look at the cliffs.

Ouchijuku

Ouchijuku
Ouchijuku prospered during the Edo Period as a post station connecting Aizu in Fukushima Prefecture and Nikko in Tochigi Prefecture. There remain more than 30 thatched roof houses, which now offer a variety of shops, restaurants and small traditional inns called minshuku. This spot still retains the atmosphere of the old days.
