The almost 100 meter tall Kegon Waterfall is located at the Lake Chuzenji of Nikko. It is the only exit for the waters of Lake Chuzenji, which makes it the most impressive and magnificient fall among the 48 waterfalls in Nikko and is ranked as one of the three most beautiful falls in Japan. The stunning views of the falls can be enjoy throughout the different seasons and throughout different angles, where a free observation platform allows you to see the falls from above and a paid elevator gets you closer to the falls.
Nikko Toshogu Shrine
Nikko Toshogu Shrine, a World Heritage site, is an architectural gem dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu. With its beautiful decorations and wonderfully skilled carvings, most of the shrine complex has been designated a National Treasure and an Important Cultural Property. It is a popular tourist destination for visitors from abroad.
Rinnoji Temple
Founded by Shodo Shonin more than 1200 years ago, Rinnoji is a Tendai Buddhist temple building in Nikko. The temple’s main building, Sanbutsudo (Three Buddha Hall), is considered to be the largest architecture in Nikko and was designated as an important cultural property. Inside the temple, there is a small Japanese style garden called Shoyoen which is a popular autumn leaf spot with the best color of peak foliage in the first half of November.
Futarasan Shrine, Sacred Bridge
Standing next to the Toshogu, Futarasan Shrine is dedicated to the Shinto gods, deities of Nikko's three most sacred mountains: Mount Nantai, Mount Nyoho and Mount Taro.
The Shrine is symbolized by a bridge, called Sacred Bridge crossing the Daiya River which marks as an entrance to Nikko’s shrines and temples. This beautiful vermilion lacquered structure was registered as a world heritage site in 1999. Area of the shrine grounds is so huge that it only second to the Ise Shrine of Mie Prefecture in size.
Futarasan Shrine Chugushi & Yaotome Maiden Dance
There are 2 other Futarasan shrines located higher up in the mountains, with one at the northern shore of Lake Chuzenji naming Futarasan Shrine Chugushi. A visit to the Chugushi is included where you will be able to enjoy an exclusive dance performance by Yaotome maidens which is normally conducted only during special occasions.
