Hida Craftsmanship and its furniture
About 1,300 years ago, woodworkers in the Hida region, surrounded by trees on all sides were obliged by law to construct palaces and temples in the capital, instead of paying taxes. It is said that craftsmen who honed their skills in the capital and returned to Hida Takayama after completing their tenure nurtured craftsmanship that made use of the abundant variety of trees, creating the culture and tradition of wood construction.
The traditions and techniques have been handed down from generation to generation as "Hida furniture", making Hida one of Japan's leading furniture and household goods producers.

History of the bonnet bus
This vehicle was manufactured in 1967 and was used as a fixed-route bus. It is a rare and valuable vehicle preserved as it was at that time in Japan, and very few vehicles still move. The same model of bonnet bus was the mainstream from the 1950s to the 1960s, and many of them were operated from Takayama station bound for Norikura as mountain climbing buses during the summer season, which became a summer feature.

The picture drawn on both sides of the bus exterior is the work of Kenzo Tama, a graphic designer from Takayama, which depicts the scenery of Hida's four seasons.
