Omikuji is a paper slip with the result of fortune telling written on it. It not only tells you whether you will have good, or bad luck in the future, but also describes how your life goes in the aspect of money, health and relationships etc. Omikuji at Kasuga Taisha Shrine is unique as it is in the shape of sika deer. An English version of omikuji is available exclusively to the participants of tour.
Feeding shika deer with rice crackers (senbei)
Nara’s deer are the symbols of the city as there are over 1000 deers strolling freely around and are carefully protected as a natural treasure.
It has been said that Nara’s deer is the most polite and tame in the world and they have learnt to bow to the visitors for food. Participants of the tour are given 1 pack of rice crackers and have a chance to interact closely with the deer by feeding them at Mount Wakakusa.
