Arrive at Miyajimaguchi! Transfer for ferry
After about an hour, the bus arrived at Miyajimaguchi.
I immediately boarded a ferry to Miyajima!
IC cards can be used, so the transfer went smoothly.
Actually, this was my first time visiting Miyajima. I started feeling excited when boarding the ferry.
I was on board.
View from the compartment was amazing. The large windows offered a beautiful view of the Hiroshima Bay.
The counter seating is also equipped with power supply. Power supply may not be available on some types of vessels.
When you stepped out onto the deck, you could feel a pleasant sea breeze. It mysteriously made you feel relaxed and refreshed.
It took about 10 minutes, and I arrived at Miyajima in no time.
Although I just landed, I was impressed by the amazing scenery.
The waiting area at the Miyajima ferry terminal has a kind of Showa-era atmosphere.
The weather was nice. It was a perfect day for sightseeing!
I saw a deer when I left the ferry pier. The deer was familiar with people and made no sign of running away when I approached it.
My next destination was the Itsukushima Shrine. It was within easy walking distance as it was only 600 metres away.
There was a stone statue of the Three Most Scenic Spots of Japan.
Apart from Miyajima, the other 2 Most Scenic Spots of Japan were also introduced in the previous articles of Bus Repo.

The sea color palettes were so beautiful and soothing. ……
I felt relieved just by walking around.
Head to MIYAJIMA BREWERY and get a drink of Miyajima’s craft beer
I passed by the Miyajiam Omotesando Shopping Street on the way to Itsukushima Shrine. I dropped by and took a look.
You can drink freshly brewed craft beer at MIYAJIMA BREWERY here. It is a must-go for beer lovers!
It was hard to decide which one to take. They offered drinking comparison sets, which you can try and enjoy a variety of drinks.
I went for the standard “Momiji LAGER”. It tasted refreshing and I drank it all at once!

The street was filled up with souvenir shops and shops selling Hiroshima’s well-known Momiji-manju buns.
Enjoy Miyajima’s specialty at Hatakaya
Hatakaya was particularly crowded with lots of people where you can try momiji-manju, Miyajima Jake (deep-fried Momiji-manju) and Miyajima De Gansu, filled with creamy fish paste.
I bought a ticket at the vending machine and passed the ticket to the staff. (only cash is accepted so not to forget to bring cash with you)
Once I handed in the ticket, I was given a number tag and waited until my number was being called.
I ordered the ‘Miyajima de gansu’.
It contained onions and the crunchy texture was unbearable ……! It was so good that I wish I could take more.

To Itsukushima Shrine, the World Heritage Site
After some food and a short walk, the familiar torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine came into my sight. Needless to say, it was absolutely beautiful.
I went inside the Itsukushima Shrine.
Admission fees are 300yen for adults, 200yen for high-school students, and 100yen for elementary and junior high school students. (as of May 2024)
The shrine was surrounded by a solemn atmosphere and the view from inside the shrine was breathtaking. I was glad that I came.
I went outside and looked at the architecture. It felt like time was passing slowly.
The torii gate could be seen from a little distance away. It made you feel like you were in a mysterious world…!

Enjoy nature at Momijidani Park
After enjoying Itsukushima Shrine to the full, I took a stroll and headed for the Momijidani Park.
As its name suggests, Momijidani Park is famous for its autumn (Momiji) foliage. Every year it attracts many visitors during the autumn leaf season.
This time I visited in May, which was not a season for autumn foliage. However, it was still worth visiting.
I believe it must be really beautiful during the autumn leaf season.
